The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center was the vision of several community and civic leaders in Midland and Odessa. In 2006 that vision was realized when Texas Legislation was authorized for the construction of a performing arts facility and music department for The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The goals were simple but profound: to achieve excellent acoustics, offer enhanced theater systems, and improve cultural and educational opportunities for the region. Construction began on the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center in March of 2009 and was completed in the fall of 2011.
With multiple awards ranging from #1 University Venue for venues with 5,000 seats or fewer and #67 in the Top 100 Theatre Venues worldwide for 2013, The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center boasts an exterior design that combines local themes of geology and open sky and is a visual symbol of culture, education, achievement, and performance excellence. The Wagner Noël hosts a myriad of community and regional events from musical concerts to ballet and Symphonic performances bringing some of the biggest names in entertainment. The center also puts on numerous University of Texas of the Permian Basin events including student recitals and the University Holiday Celebration.View Website
